One Goal, Unity !

TEAM NEWS

We had a GREAT team this 2008 Spring season.  We went undefeated, scoring a total of 54 goals in the regular season and tournament games.  We had most of the 2007 Fall team back and a couple new additions.  We kept pretty much the same line up over the course of the season. We had an extremely strong Defensive line headed by Nicole as Center, Whitney as Right, and Autumn or Sam as Left.  We also had an awesome set of Midfielders with Meg at Center and Elena, Jessie, Sam, and Mariah as the Left and Right Wings. Our Forward was also very strong, with a lot of shots on net.  Playing at Center-Right Forward was Kristen and at Center-Left was Alex.  Mel started as Left-Wing and Maddie started as Right-Wing, with Lindsey and Angie subbing in as the game progressed.  Then of course we had Jessica in Net, aka Squirrel in the Cage.  Occasionally, Autumn gave Jess a break by taking over in Net.  This is just the basic lineup and people may have played various other positions than I have them at here. 

Championship Game

We played the Championship Game against a good Laketon team.  At first, the game was delayed for a half hour due to thunder, but as soon as the time was up, we started the first half.  We played a strong half. The Defense kept it up field and the Offense put shots on net, but did not score.  At half time, the score was tied 0-0.  Just as we were about to retake the field, we heard the low rumble of thunder, so we waited.  The thunder did not stop, so the referees made the decision to cancel the last half of the game.  This put us into a sudden death overtime.  After the five minutes, no one scored.  This sent us into a second sudden death overtime.  Yet again, after the five minutes, the score remained 0-0.  Now the championship is decided by the shoot out.  Each team chose five girls to take the deciding PK shots, and each team chose their goal keeper.  Squirrel was our keeper and our shooters, in order, were Meg, Alex, Kristen, Mel, and Elena.  Laketon won the coin toss and they chose to shoot first. The first shot went in, high and to the left.  Meg was the first to shoot for us, the rest of the team stood on the half line and waited, the tension was indescribable.  Meg's shot went in, unfortunately, Laketon's next shot went in as well.  Next up for us was Alex, and her shot went in, but again Laketon's shot went in also.  Kristen's shot went right in, and the score was still tied, 3-3.  Then Laketon's fourth shooter shot, Jessica stopped it.  Our whole team started cheering and we were ecstatic.  But then Mel was up.  Her shot would have been perfect, but it hit the top left corner post and didn't go in.  Once again we were tied.  Laketon's last shooter took her shot, and Jess saved it.  Now, if we made our last shot, we would win the championship.  It was all up to Elena. She had a beautiful shot and it went right in.  Our entire team sprinted off the half line and dog piled on Elena.  We were overwhelmed with emotion.  It had been five years, ten seasons, that our team had stayed together, and finally, we had won the championship.  We got to the point where we just knew where each other were without having to look, we knew who played well where, and we worked together as a team.  This season, our team finally got it together, and we achieved our goal...UNITY!!
